A typical ELOS system is comprised of at least 2 sites, each with a radio and an
antenna. Due to the low power requirements, a solar panel paired with a deep-cycle
battery can be used as a power supply in place of a dedicated power source.
The packet data radios used in an ELOS network operate in the low-band VHF (40-50MHz)
region of the RF spectrum. Two radios can be used, either the
MCC-545B or the MCC-545C. The
radios are identical in all respects except for their modulation and data rates.
The 545C radio can also be ordered with an integrated GPS.
Each radio must have a single low-band VHF antenna. If the radio is using the internal
GPS, a GPS antenna must also be attached. Both antennas can be purchased from MeteorComm.
